GISD: Make an Impact

Family Impact Nights

In Giddings ISD, the theme for the 2017-2018 school year is “Make an Impact,” and it will begin with the goal of encouraging families to foster, re-establish, or even strengthen relationships in the household. Therefore, with this mission in mind, the school will set aside one night per month in which all students in every grade level will not be assigned homework.

It is the hope that this small change in Giddings’s homework procedures will at least bring families back together during the busy week so parents can feel as though they have more time to positively impact their children. Parents, after all, provide the greatest education to their children in nearly all of the most important areas of life. Providing some quality time for parents to do just that, is a top priority of Giddings ISD. Therefore, the 3rd Wednesday of each month, beginning in October, will be “Family Impact Nights” for our school district.

Suggested Family Impact Activities:

Have a family meal (No phones or other devices; No TV; Each member of the family responsible for a part of the meal)
Participate in family movie night
Take a family walk
Play at the park
Attend church
Read together
Complete a community service project
Eat out together with no devices
Go for a drive with the radio off
Take a picnic at the park
Plan any other activity that promotes families engaging with each other in a meaningful way

GIS News: Week of September 3, 2017

We have had a fantastic start to this school year! Students did a great job learning and practicing expectations. They were engaged in awesome stations, interactive journals, and reading activities this week. Teachers are working to assess where our students are at and build plans for making lots of progress this year. It's going to be a great school year! We will be starting our 7 Mindsets activities this week with the first mindset, Everything is Possible. We all have big dreams for our students' academic success this year. We will be exploring our dreams during the month of September. We will send home more information each week with students about the 7 Mindsets and Everything is Possible. As part of this study, we will be creating a Dream Garden in our front flower beds. Each student is encouraged to bring a rock with a smooth surface to school during the coming week. The rocks should be no bigger than a fist.
